(1/2019) "Using three grapes that all perform well in the Swartland, especially in hot drought vintages like 2018, this is a delightful 50/40/10 blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Tinta Barocca. Fresh, scented and bright, it has some stony grip, plenty of fynbos perfume and refreshing acidity. 2020-2026 "
(8/2021). With every new bottling, winemaker Jasper Wickens seems to be willing South African wine into the international wine discussion. Truly, if we had blind tasted this wine, we would have been stumped. It brings to mind great wine regions such as Bierzo and Provence. Blended from a 90% fusion of Cinsault and Grenache -- topped up with a smidge of the Portuguese native, Tinta Barocca. Showing raspberry, cranberry, black tea, with a distinct rocky earth backbone, the Swerwer is quite complex. Fresh and lively, the style is lighter than one might think, with good grip and acidity across the long finish. A truly unique wine coming from a unique region.
